Embedded Linux powers Paris airport parking payment system

Thales Group used embedded Linux to minimize hardware resources and maximize functionality in its new parking lot fare collection system, it says. The “Largo WiLi” system has operated successfully at Paris Orly airport since May 2003, and at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport since November 2003. (more…)

JTAG debugger gains graphical IDE

American Arium will add an integrated development environment (IDE) from SlickEdit to the software that drives its hardware-assisted debuggers. Arium's hardware-assisted debuggers target embedded Linux (and other OS) development on small systems such as cell phones lacking a serial port or LAN interface. (more…)

ESC Best of Show award winners announced

Wind River was named the overall Best of Show winner at the 2004 Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) for its full-scale replica of the VxWorks-based Mars Rover. Category winners were also announced for six device categories.

Linux 2.6 BSP supports IBM’s most powerful PPC chip

LynuxWorks will ship in June a Linux 2.6 based board support package (BSP) for the IBM 970FX PowerPC processor. The 970FX is a 90nm version of the 130nm PPC970 chip used in current desktop Apple Macintosh G5 systems, and is considered to be IBM's most powerful PPC chip. (more…)

Free real-time Linux project achieves stable release

A project to produce a free, dual-kernel, real-time Linux distribution has achieved its first stable release. The Open Components for Embedded Real-time Applications (OCERA) project's 1.0.0 release supports real quality of service scheduling, CAN bus systems, and fault-tolerant and real-time Ethernet, along with standard Linux functionalities. IP stack for embedded Linux supports IPv6 virtual routing

Interpeak is shipping an integrated Internet Protocol (IP) software stack it claims is the first to support virtual routing for IPv4 and IPv6. Internet Edge Software (IES) provides data routing and forwarding, user administration, secure management, and basic system services. Apogee Software has revised its Java development and runtime environment, adding J9 virtual machine technology and support for the Real-time Specification for Java. Secure embedded Web server gains PHP support

Mbedthis Software has added support for the PHP scripting language to its high-security HTTP server for embedded devices. AppWeb 1.1 implements PHP support as a loadable module, and is currently available as a development release. Interview with Mot exec suggests Linux smartphone by year end

SuperH embedded Linux dev tool adds JTAG, ICE debugger

Lineo Solutions will add support for a JTAG in-circuit emulator (ICE) debugger from Kyoto Micro Computer's (KMC) to its uLinux Elite development environment. The support, expected late April, will work with two System-on-Chips (SoCs) based on SuperH RISC cores, and several development boards from SuperH chipmaker Renesas. (more…)
