USB framework for Linux adds ‘Bulverde’ driver

Belcarra Technologies has added drivers for Intel's latest XScale chip to its Linux USB Framework 2.0, software for device designers that supports eight target platforms. The new Belcarra driver supports Intel's PXA 27x, or 'Bulverde' processor, a power-conserving chip based on ARM technology and targeting multimedia-enabled mobile devices. (more…)

Altera FPGA with soft-core Nios Linux on PC/104

Tri-M Engineering has unveiled a family of PC/104 form-factor modules based on Altera's Cyclone field programmable gate arrays (FPGA). The modules are available with several PC/104 connection options, and are expected to run embedded Linux on a Nios “soft” core processor. (more…)

Free digital media SDK supports open standards

The Khronos Group has achieved the first stable release of its software development kit (SDK) for OpenML 1.0, a digital media API that, if widely adopted, would enable content authoring application developers to easily integrate video, audio, and 3D graphics capabilities in a standardized manner portable across multiple operating systems, CPU architectures, and add-in hardware devices. Geode based EBX board gains long-term commitment

Scalable embedded database available on embedded Linux 2.6

LynuxWorks has announced that Empress Embedded Database is now available for its BlueCat embedded Linux operating system. Empress V8.62 is a multi-platform, highly scalable real-time database, according to LynuxWorks, that targets image and voice management, networking, telecom, military, defense, process control, automotive, and data acquisition.
