DVD-ready Dolby encoder supports MIPS Linux

Sonic Solutions is shipping a new consumer audio encoder aimed at SoC (system-on-chip) and ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) designers building inexpensive Linux-based consumer audio devices on the MIPS architecture, without the benefit of external DSPs (digital signal processors). VDC: Ruggedized/industrial computer market nearing $2B by 2006

North American and Western European market demand for ruggedized/industrial computer systems is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.4 percent, reaching approximately $1.9 billion by 2006, according to a recent report published by market analyst firm Venture Development Corp. IDE simplifies Linux batch data terminal programming

New double-density Flash chips support Linux

[Updated May 9, 2005] — NOR Flash specialist Spansion will provide Linux drivers and filesystem software for low-cost, high-density Flash chips targeting mobile devices and reaching production in late 2004. The 1.8-volt WS-N Flash family will use a density-doubling technology, and will be priced at $5.75-$14 for configurations between 8MB and 32MB (in 10K quantities). (more…)

Linux audio gadget to feature XBox 5.1 surround sound
