Free real-time Linux distro gains cross-platform GUI framework

Koan Software has enhanced its real-time Linux distribution for industrial applications with support for wxWidgets (formerly wxWindows), a mature C++ GUI framework for cross-platform development. wxWidgets provides an API that enables console and graphical applications to be compiled on various target platforms with a native look and feel on each. Windows media laptop plays with embedded Linux

Latest Mobile Pentium chips power PCI-104 SBC

In Q4, 2004, Lippert will ship a PCI-104 SBC (single-board computer) that it calls “the smallest and fastest Linux computer today in x86 technology.” The “Cool RoadRunner 4” (CRR4) board is based on an Intel Pentium M “Dothan” 755 processor clocked up to 2GHz. (more…)

SCO loses first anti-Linux lawsuit

SCO has essentially lost its lawsuit against DaimlerChrysler, one of two the financially ailing Unix vendor filed against high-profile Linux users in an effort to discredit the open source operating system and the GNU General Public License (GPL) under which it is distributed. SCO's other case against Linux user Autozone has been postponed, and SCO is also struggling in an earlier case against Linux… (more…)

Deli chain serves up embedded Linux

China picks Linux for 3G mobile phones

Chinese government-owned telecom equipment manufacturer Datang has selected Linux as the embedded operating system for a mobile handset designed to work with Datang's TD-SCDMA network equipment, expected to power 3G (third-generation) networks in China by 2005. The TD-SCDMA standard, the world's third 3G technology, may also see use in Europe and elsewhere. (more…)

Intel spins more mobile Pentiums and Celerons

Intel has expanded its mobile Pentium and Celeron families with four new processors targeting compact, low power, portable devices. The processors are based on Intel's mobile micro-architecture, cover clock rates from 900 MHz to 1.4 GHz, offer typical power consumptions between 5 and 10 Watts, and are implemented in Intel's 90-nanometer (nm) process technology. MontaVista carrier grade Linux gains high-availability database

A version of Sleepycat's high availability embedded database has been certified for use with MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition 3.1 (CGE). Sleepycat's Berkeley DB High Availability (HA) 4.2 uses single-master replication to offer a scalable, fault tolerance enterprise database. Like CGE, it targets telecom and network equipment makers.
