IBM seeds new embedded Linux projects in Brazil

IBM will expand its Brazilian Linux Technology Center (LTC), in order to advance several projects of interest to embedded Linux developers. Contest explores uses for Nokia’s 770 Internet tablet

A weekly social networking event in Helsinki devoted to open source software is sponsoring a contest to suggest uses for Nokia's 770 Internet tablet. Linux robots elicit human responses

U.S. soldiers in Iraq are forming emotional ties to Linux-powered robots, according to Reuters. iRobot's robots — used for tasks such as explosives defusing and cave exploration — are being given nicknames and winning loyalty, to the extent that soldiers request repairs for their favorites, Reuters says. Trolltech goes public

After 12 years in business, Trolltech on Tuesday filed an application for listing on the Oslo Stock Exchange (OSE). The OSE reports receiving the application the following day, and says Trolltech is now subject to disclosure of information requirements. (more…)

World’s first single-core Linux phone demoed

FSMLabs and Infineon Technologies claim to have achieved the world's first demonstration of a Linux mobile phone based on a single processor core: a working prototype based on a single ARM9 core running FSMLabs's RTLinux real-time Linux OS, along with a functional 2G/3G (WCDMA/EDGE/GPRS/GSM) stack from Infineon's wholly-owned subsidiary, Comneon. First C/C++ binaries bidirectional debugger targets Linux

A U.K.-based start-up founded by two Ph.D's is shipping a bidirectional debugger for arbitrary Linux binary programs, including those written in C or C++. Renesas preps Linux-friendly telematics SoC

Renesas says it will sample in August a new SoC (system on chip) and development board that support Linux and target telematics and in-vehicle systems. The SH7397 “Euclid” SoC is based on a 300MHz, 32-bit SH-4A SuperH processor, and will double performance of the company's current SH7760 “Camelot” telematics processor, the company says. (more…)
