Seminars for NEPs tout open architectures, outsourcing

Enea and its partners will hold one-day seminars for network equipment providers (NEPs) this fall, in North America, Europe, and Japan. The seminars will showcase open architecture products and technology, and describe how telecom equipment makers can “outsource their platform design and accelerate application software development,” Enea says. PPC Linux dev kit targets Cell, multicore

Mercury Computer Systems is shipping a Linux-based software development kit for IBM's Cell BE and “other multi-core processors.” The company says its MultiCore Plus SDK can complement components of the IBM's Cell SDK, while enabling users to maximize resource usage and application performance. Wind River misses NASDAQ reporting deadline

Wind River failed to meet a deadline for reporting its second-quarter earnings, and could be dropped from the NASDAQ stock exchange, according to an Associated Press (AP) report. Sony’s Linux-based Mylo to include Skype VoIP

eCos starter kit includes JTAG emulator

Austrian JTAG tools vendor Ronetix is shipping an eCos-based embedded development “Starter Kit” that includes a small ARM9-based CPU module, a baseboard, and a JTAG emulator, The kit also comes with GNU tools, the open-source eCos operating system, and an Eclipse-based IDE (integrated development environment). Novell nears real-time Linux release

Novell will reportedly launch a “real-time” version of Linux in October. SUSE Linux Enterprise Edition Real-time (SLERT) will be available only with a “consulting engagement,” and will target “soft” real-time applications tolerant of interrupt latencies as slow as 27 microseconds, according to a story at CNET. McDonald’s pilots Linux-based electronic signage
