Embedded market research firm VDC taps veteran analyst

VDC has forged a partnership with First Technology Inc. (FTI) and FTI's principal analyst, Paul Zorfass. The collaboration with Zorfass, who once served as executive director of the Computer Research division of the Yankee Group, will enhance the depth and breadth of VDC's embedded market research, VDC says. Smartphone market takes off

Worldwide shipments of converged mobile devices achieved record shipments of 19.3 million units in Q2 of 2006, a 42.1 percent year-over-year gain, IDC reported on Sept. 12. For the entire year, shipments of the devices are expected to reach nearly 100 million units, according to the analyst firm. (more…)

IBM ships first Cell-based computer

IBM is shipping its first Cell-based computer. The BladeCenter QS20 is a blade designed for use with IBM's Linux-based System Cluster 1350 product line. Samsung readies 32Gb flash chips

Samsung says it is developing 40nm process technology, with the aim of producing flash memory chips up to 32 gigabit (Gb) in capacity. Several such chips could soon be combined in memory cards up to 64 gigabytes (GB), the company says. The chips use patent-pending “Charge Trap Flash” (CTF) technology. (more…)
