Claimed-first Core Duo AMC runs Linux

Mercury Computer Systems is sampling what it claims to be the first AMC (advanced mezzanine card) based on Intel's Core Duo processor. Mercury also says its AXA-100, which is available with Linux, “doubles the compute resource available in an AMC form factor.” (more…)

Tiny Monahans SBC runs Linux

Automatic speech recognizer claims 98% accuracy

Fonix Speech has updated its automatic speech recognition (ASR) software that runs on Linux, among other OSes. The company claims that VoiceIn SE 4.1 boosts recognition by 24 percent, to accuracy rates as high as 98 percent, and offers significantly improved recognition accuracy in “noise-saturated” environments. Strong Linux smartphone sales in China helped Motorola achieve the highest overall year-on-year growth among the top five vendors in the PDA/Smartphone market, according to Gartner.
