IDE rev’d for improved multi-core debugging

Swedish telecom software firm Enea announced a new version of its Linux-compatible Eclipse-based integrated development environment (IDE). Optima 2.1 adds enhanced system level debugging functionality via upgraded versions of the Enea BlackBox Recorder and Optima Log Analyzer, with a special focus on debugging multi-core and multi-processor applications, the company says. Open source Carrier Grade Linux middleware rev’d

The OpenSAF project announced a new version of its open source High Availability (HA) middleware platform for Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) networking systems. Release 3.0 of the Open Service Availability Framework (OpenSAF) adds numerous platform management features, usability improvements, and support for Java APIs, says the project. (more…)

ARM9 SoC targets touch-capable auto and industrial devices

Freescale launched an “i.MX25” family of system-on-chips (SoCs) targeting automotive infotainment (i.MX251 and i.MX255) and industrial applications (i.MX253, i.MX257, and i.MX258). German embedded vendor SSV announced an add-on GSM/GPRS wireless router module for one of its miniature ARM-based SBCs (single-board computers). Hypervisor targets embedded multi-core

Wind River announced the availability of its long-awaited virtualization technology for networking and industrial embedded systems. Wind River Hypervisor supports Intel and PowerPC multi-core processors running Wind River Linux and VxWorks, and will eventually support other chip architectures and operating systems (OSes), says the company. Linux multi-touch technology demo’d

A development group at ENAC in Toulouse, France, reports that it has developed a proof of concept for adding iPhone-like multi-touch support to the Linux kernel. The group has released a video showing multi-touch effects such as resizing and rotating using Linux 2.6.30. (more…)

Real-time kernel upgraded

The Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) released a “latest stable” real-time Linux kernel based on Linux 2.6.29, and has merged its threaded interrupt real-time code into the Linux 2.6.30 mainline. Chinese Linux distro taps new Qt SDK

Qt Software announced that Red Flag Software will start using the SDK (software development kit) for the Qt development framework as part of its Red Flag Software Linux Desktop 7.0 distribution. Palm’s Linux phone “exceptional,” says reviewer

Trinity Convergence has extended its mobile VoIP/video middleware software to enable a wide range of embedded devices with IP telephony and video.
