x86 computer module supports high-res dual LVDS

Aaeon announced a computer module based on Via C7's or Eden (V4) processors, plus the Via CX700M chipset. The ETX-CX700M offers numerous expansion and storage interfaces, supports 1600 x 1200 resolutions on dual-channel LVDS displays, and offers Linux drivers, says the company. (more…)

Google names Chrome OS partners

Google followed up on yesterday's announcement of a Linux-based Chrome OS for netbooks by listing nine technology partners that are supporting its new open-source platform. Meanwhile, one report claims that Intel, which is not on the list, is also collaborating with Google on Chrome OS. (more…)

PICMG board offers Atom, two gigabit ports

Ibase has announced a PICMG 1.0-compatible CPU card that includes a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. The IB827 offers one IDE port and two SATA II interfaces, a CompactFlash slot, LVDS and VGA video outputs, four serial ports, and two gigabit Ethernet ports, the company says. (more…)

Linux mobile devices offer free GPRS

Datawind began shipping a low-cost 7-inch screen netbook and two smaller clamshell PDAs that run Linux on an ARM processor. The UbiSurfer netbook, as well as the PocketSurfer3 and PocketSurfer3 Lite handhelds, come with free GPRS-based Internet access in the U.K., says the company. (more…)

Subscription service supports PowerPC SoC

Timesys announced a LinuxLink subscription for the PowerPC 460EX system-on-chip (SoC) from AppliedMicro (formerly AMCC). The subscription provides the latest 2.6.30 kernel for Applied Micro's industrial-focused 460EX SoC and Canyonlands evaluation board, and includes drivers for a variety of on-chip peripherals, says the company. Axiomtek has announced a fanless embedded system that uses Intel's 1.1GHz Atom Z510 or 1.6GHz Z530 CPUs, and measures just 5.2 x 3.8 x 1.5 inches. The “eBOX510-820-FL” includes gigabit Ethernet, CompactFlash storage, and four USB ports, and it runs off 5VDC power, the company says. (more…)

Tutorial tunes into Android sensors

IBM DeveloperWorks has published a tutorial on exploiting the capabilities of Android's sensors. Frank Ableson's intermediate-level “Tapping into Android's Sensors” offers tips on using the sensor subsystem, and supplies sample code for monitoring orientation and accelerometer sensors, as well as recording audio snippets. T-Mobile launches second Android phone

T-Mobile is now accepting pre-orders for its second Android-based phone from HTC, which will ship for its U.S. 3G network customers on Aug. 5. The keyboard-free MyTouch 3G will provide customization options both in the UI and via customizable skins and accessories, says the company. (more…)

Google’s new OS marries Linux and Chrome
