PowerPC-based VXS board gains development support
August 5, 2009Timesys says its subscription-based LinuxLink development framework now supports a new dual-core, Freescale 8641D PowerPC-based single-board computer from Mercury Computer Systems. Mercury's Ensemble 5000 Series VXS HCD5220 offers dual PMC/XMC mezzanine sites and serial RapidIO, and is designed for sensor-networked environments such as radar installations and other military and industrial applications.
Portwell has announced a 1U appliance targeting VPN, firewall, and network management applications. The CAR-3000 supports Intel processors ranging from a Celeron 440 up to a Core 2 Quad, uses DDR3 memory, and has six Ethernet ports, the company says.
Novatel Wireless announced a new multi-network version of its Linux-based “MiFi” mobile hotspot, supporting HSPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS. The MiFi 2372 appears to be similar to Novatel's Europe-targeted MiFi 2352, but adds UMTS (CDMA) support, and is accompanied with a new OpenCGI API designed to program the device.

The programmable device runs Linux on a 32-bit Atmel AP7000 SoC and AVR32 core, says the company.
