2GHz CompactPCI SBCs run embedded Linux

Kontron has introduced three new high-performance CompactPCI CPU boards — one in 3U and two in 6U format — based on 2 GHz Intel Pentium M 755 or 760 processors. All three support embedded Linux, are designed for passive cooling, and support rear backplane I/O.

CP306 3U

The CP306 was originally introduced in July of 2003 with a 1.6 GHz processor, and was upgraded a year later to 1.8 GHz. It features directly soldered processor and memory for reliable operation in harsh environments, according to Kontron. The device supports up to 1 GB of DDR SDRAM with ECC (Error Correction Code). The 855GME chipset's integrated graphics controller supports 2D, 3D, and video capabilities. Other I/O includes Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, four USB 2.0, up to four COM interfaces, a CompactFlash socket, and a dual ATA/100 interface.

CP6000 6U

The CP6000 offers an “optimized price-to-performance ratio” for media gateways, networks and switching applications, according to Kontron. It features the 855GME chipset and up to 2 GB of SDRAM. I/O includes up to four Gigabit Ethernet interfaces — two in the front and two PICMG 2.16-compliant interfaces via the rear J3 connector — as well as front-panel VGA, USB, and COM interfaces. Other features include an onboard PMC module location that supports PCI-X, an optional 2.5 inch HDD, and CompactFlash.

CP6011 6U

The CP6011 features the E7501 chipset and 2 GB of SDRAM on two 200-pin SODIMM sockets. An ATI Mobility M graphics chip, with 4 MB of memory, supports up to 1600x1200x16-bit screen resolution. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports are available on the rear panel with a Fast Ethernet port on the front panel intended for system management functions. I/O expansion is supported via two PMC slots, one offering a PIM and a PCI-X interface with 64-bits at up to 133 MHz and the other with a 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI interface. According to Kontron, the CP6011 is aimed at high performance embedded applications such as VoIP, Video-on-Demand, telecom, datacom, and medical applications.
