Bluepoint develops embedded Linux for Chinese set-top box

Bluepoint Linux Software Corp. (China) has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to develop an embedded Chinese Linux operating system for a set-top box to be manufactured by Beijing Sun and Sea Data Communication Co Ltd., a subsidiary of Bridge Group. Bridge Group is building a broadband multimedia network with nation-wide coverage throughout China.

The Bridge Group multimedia network is based on a CATV transmission network. The broadband network will provide digital TV programs, video-on-demand, phonetic services, Internet services and other multimedia information services (details here). Subscribers will use the specially designed set-top box to access the network.

The Bridge Group set-top box will support: Chinese input and printing; MPEG1 and MPEG2 format stream video decoding; DOCSIS standard cable modem driver; standard browser (HTML 4.0/JavaScript/Java Applet); wireless keyboard and hot function keys.
