Dual-licensed object database conference launches

Apr 25, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Db4Ojbects will hold a conference for developers and users of its dual-licensed object database, which targets applications for mobile and industrial devices. The first global db4o user conference (dUC) will feature talks from key Java/.Net and Java/Linux leaders, and is set for July 10 and 11, in London, U.K.

Db4o can store Java, .NET, or mono objects without requiring conversion to SQL or another format. Db4Objects released db4o for non-commercial use under the GNU GPL last summer, and claimed eight months later that it had become the world's most popular object database.

Db4Objects expects dUC to be the first of an ongoing series of events aimed at bringing together the core db4o contributor team with members of 12,000-strong db4o community. Speakers will include Ted Neward and Andrew Cowie, of Java/.NET and Java/Linux community fame, respectively; Stefan Edlich and Jim Paterson, authors of the upcoming book The Definitive Guide to db4o; and db4objects representatives Carl Rosenberger and Christof Wittig.
