Arcom has introduced an EBX-format single-board computer (SBC) supporting a range of high-end Intel processors, including Core 2 Duo chips. The high-performance “Gemini” SBC runs Linux and accommodates up to 3GB of SDRAM, along with an extensive set of PC-style interfaces, including four gigabit Ethernet ports.

Arcom says it is targeting the powerful Gemini SBC at “very high bandwidth, low power consumption systems,” such as enterprise and residential network applications. To help manage the heat generated in such applications, the board implements “dynamic fan control” said to “[ensure] operation over a wide temperature range whilst keeping acoustic noise to an absolute minimum.”

Arcom says the Gemini is currently its highest-performance SBC

Touted Gemini features and specifications include:

  • Processors supported — Intel Core 2 Duo, Core Duo, Core Solo, Celeron M 4xx processor (Merom/Yonah); 533/667MHz FSB
  • Chipset — Intel 945GM, ICH7M
  • Memory — 2 x DDR2 533/667MHz SDRAM slots, for up to 3GB
  • Display:
    • based on Intel 945GM, with integrated GMA (graphic media accelerator) 950 Technology
    • LVDS interface — 18/24-bit single/dual channel
    • VGA interface
    • video memory — up to 224MB shared with system memory
  • Storage:
2 x Serial ATA interfaces; 150MB/s transfer rate

    • IDE — PCI enhanced IDE with 44-pin connector; supports 2 ATAPI devices, disk-on-module
    • floppy port
    • CF slot on back side of board
  • Audio — Intel ICH7-M integrated with Realtek ALC655 5.1 CH AC97 Codec
  • LAN — 4 x Gigabit Ethernet ports, based on Intel 82573L controllers
  • Other I/O:
    • 6 USB 2.0 ports
    • 3 x serial ports (2 x RS232; 1 x RS232/422/485)
    • 8-bit digital I/O interface
    • 2 x PS2 keyboard/mouse ports
    • parallel printer port
    • IrDA
  • Expansion:
    • PCI slot
    • mini PCI socket
  • Dimensions — 8.0 x 5.75 inches (EBX footprint)
  • Power:
    • uses 24-pin ATX power supply (20-pin is compatible) or 8-24 VDC input
    • ACPI 1.0 compliant, supports power-saving mode

The company claims to offer “award winning” Linux, Windows XP, and Vista support for the Gemini SBC.

The company also offers the Gemini SBC within a 1U, rack-mount system, the “Gemini ICE” (depicted below). This RoHS-compliant low profile system integrates CD-RW/DVD and HDD drives together with a universal mains 8-24 VDC power supply, and offers two PCI expansion slots, Arcom said.

The 1U “Gemini ICE” system combines the Gemini SBC with storage peripherals and a power supply

Both the Gemini SBC and Gemini ICE system are shipping now, a spokesperson said. Pricing was not disclosed.
