Murry Shohat, Executive Director of the Embedded Linux Consortium (ELC) has provided a status update on the formation of a chapter of the ELC in Europe (see related news item). Shohat writes . . .

Our formation of ELC-Europe is going extremely well. Over 30 companies are on the list and I expect this to swell to more than 40 by June 12. Tuxia's conference room will be jammed!

Less than half are members at the moment.

The meeting takes place in Augsburg, Germany, at the Tuxia facility on June 12. Arrivees on June 11 are invited to a dinner mixer. Contact: Sonja Zelosko or Murry Shohat for more information.

The formation of ELC-Europe mirrors our original formation just 15 months ago, but with a big difference: most of these companies have real embedded Linux products — spanning the supply chain — and solid plans for highly proactive global marketing. I have also detected positive attitudes favoring useful standards to keep Linux from fragmenting. We therefore look forward to a welcomed increase in our global membership and in our traction program.

These companies have currently indicated they plan to attend the June 12 meeting in Germany . . .
