Embedded Linux tools vendor claims unique multi-Linux capabilities

TimeSys will demonstrate its TimeStorm Linux Tool Suite working with “any Linux” at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) next week in San Francisco. The company claims its development and testing tools to be unique in supporting existing Linux implementations as well as distributions from sources other than its own v2.4 and v2.6 Linux OSes.

Larry Weidman, TimeSys CEO, said, "Our TimeStorm suite of development and testing tools is the only solution in the industry to enable developers to take existing Linux solutions to new hardware platforms and integrate Linux components and software from multiple vendors without regard to whose Linux or which platform they use."

TimeSys is not the only embedded Linux company marketing distribution-agnostic tools. Wind River announced Eclipse-based Linux tools supporting multiple Linux variations in February. Metrowerks has also played up its tools' support for multiple Linux distributions since its acquisition of Embedix tools in December, 2002.

TimeSys first shipped its Eclipse-based TimeStorm suite in February, 2003, making it one of the first embedded Linux vendors to embrace the Eclipse platform for cross-vendor tools integration. It began a focusing marketing efforts on “any Linux” support in November of last year.

TimeSys competitor LynuxWorks is expected to announce Eclipse-based tools at ESC.
