Fanless PC has four expansion slots

Sep 7, 2010 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Axiomtek announced a fanless, industrial “shoebox” PC with four expansion slots and support for processors as fast as 2.53GHz. The IPC914-211-FL supports Intel Core 2 Duo and Celeron M CPUs, with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, and a 2.5-inch drive bay, says the company.

The IPC914-211-FL looks very similar to — and has a model number bumped up just one digit from — the IPC914-210-FL the company announced last year. The device's northbridge has been changed from Intel's 945GME Express to the newer GM45 Express, however, meaning that among other things the device now supports DDR3 memory. Processors can be Socket P-type Core 2 Duos or Celeron Ms, Axiomtek says.

Now accepting 8GB of RAM instead of the former 4GB, the IPC914-211-FL also moves from the ICH7M southbridge to the ICH9M. As before, the PC employs a wall-mountable aluminum housing whose integral heat sink allows it to run fanlessly, according to Axiomtek.

Axiomtek's IPC914-211-FL

Axiomtek says the IPC914-211-FL has expansion slots that can house either four 32-bit PCI cards, or two PCI cards plus one PCI Express x16 card and one PCI Express x1 card. (The DVI output pictured above requires an optional card.)

What appears to be a sixth slot on the device's left actually houses its brains in the form of Axiomtek's SHB211 CPU card, whose edge features two gigabit Ethernet ports, a VGA output, and two USB ports.

To the right of the slots and below them are four more USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports (three RS232 and one RS232/422/485), and a remote switch connector. Internally, the system includes a 2.5-inch bay for a SATA hard disk drive and a CompactFlash slot, Axiomtek adds.

According to Axiomtek, the IPC914-211-FL accepts DC power inputs ranging from 10 to 30 Volts, with either a Phoenix plug or a DIN jack. Operating range is from 32 to 104 deg. F (0 to 40 deg. C), and dimensions are the same as those of the IPC914-211-FL, at 9.8 x 7.3 x 7.2 inches.

Further information

Axiomtek says the IPC914-211-FL runs Linux, Windows Vista, Windows CE, and Windows XP Embedded, and will be available in late October. A product page and data sheet in PDF format may be found on the company's website, here.
