Sunnyvale, CA — (press release excerpt) — MontaVista Software Inc. today announced that Sheila Baker has joined the company as vice president of marketing. Baker's extensive background of more than 20 years of related industry experience includes multiple marketing, sales and engineering management positions. Prior to MontaVista, she spent 11 years at The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. (SCO), a leading provider of UNIX operating systems, where she most recently served as vice president of U.S. channel sales. In addition to SCO, Baker has held management, marketing and engineering positions at Hewlett-Packard, Applicon Company and Raytheon Equipment Division. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from State University of New York at Albany and a master of science degree in management and computer information systems from Northeastern University in Boston.

“MontaVista has the potential to be a dominant player in the embedded software market,” said Baker. “Its open-source Linux and cross development environment is ideal for both contemporary and next-generation embedded systems. MontaVista reduces time to market and lowers total costs for embedded systems developers by providing industry-leading Linux software products and services.”

“We have already demonstrated that our business model is viable. MontaVista revenues increased tenfold last year, with more than 80 customer design wins, many of them leading Fortune 100 companies,” added Jim Ready, MontaVista CEO and embedded industry pioneer. “Sheila is key to our continued corporate growth. She will help establish MontaVista as a leader in this dramatically expanding market.”
