Free online seminar looks at embedded Linux market

LinuxDevices.com and parent company Ziff Davis Internet will host an online seminar that takes a high-level, non-technical look at embedded Linux and the embedded Linux market. Entitled “Embedded Linux: Coming Soon to a Device Near You,” the e-seminar is set for May 4, 2005, at 2PM Eastern / 11AM Pacific time.

Chris Lanfear, Murry Shohat, and Bill Weinberg will speak at the event


LinuxDevices.com Executive Editor Rick Lehrbaum will moderate the seminar, which features three speakers, as well as a question-and-answer period. Speakers include:

  • Chris Lanfear, embedded software group manager, Venture Development Corporation
  • Murry Shohat, executive director, Embedded Linux Consortium
  • Bill Weinberg, open source architecture specialist, Open Source Development Labs

Discussion topics will include:

  • Where embedded Linux is being used, and where it will be the most successful
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of Linux in the devices space?
  • The advantages and disadvantages of the GPL license with respect to
    Linux as an embedded operating system

The 1-hour event is free with registration, but requires a PC with a variety of properly configured browser plug-ins. After registering, users can access a browser test page. When completed, the seminar will be archived here (reg. required).
