Free tables available for embedded open source showcase

Mar 17, 2010 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

The CE Linux Forum (CELF) is once again sponsoring a free technical demonstration room for embedded open source projects at this year's Embedded Linux Conference (ELC) on Apr. 13 in San Francisco. Demonstrations should cover embedded technology that offers software available under GPL or LGPL compatible licenses, says CELF.

The OSS technical demonstration showcase will be held on the second day of the three-day ELC conference, Apr. 13, from 6:30-8:30 PM, says CELF. The conference itself runs from Apr. 12-14 at the Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco. The tables are free, but at least one person associated with the booth must be an ELC registrant. (Others can help run the booth, but can't attend the conference.)

Hobbyist registrations for ELC are priced at $70, and professional registrations cost $425 through Mar. 20, and $475 afterward. Registrants also gain free access to the Linux Foundation's Collaboration Summit, which is scheduled directly afterward on Apr. 14-16, at the same Hotel Kabuki venue.

The ELC event will feature keynote speeches from Greg Kroah-Hartman and Matt Asay, and offer over 50 sessions on embedded Linux topics including flash file-systems, RT-Preempt, security, Moorestown, and Android. (For more details, please see our earlier coverage, here.)

Technology showcase poster

To be accepted for the OSS technology showcase, the demonstration should not include "purely commercial advertising," and it should cover technology with software available under GPL or LGPL compatible licenses, says CELF. Interested participants should email CELF with details on the presentation, and once accepted, prepare and send digital content for a poster using a PowerPoint template provided by CELF. The organizers will print out the poster (see image above).

Showcase tables

Presenters will be supplied with half a table (see image above), as well as an AC 110V power supply, says CELF. Ethernet is not available, but the hotel provides a WiFi network. Demonstrators can show a computer demo, as well as a board or device, and they may bring more posters and printed material to hang on the wall next to the official showcase poster. Presenters may also hand out fliers.

Availability

To apply for free access to an OSS technology showcase table at Embedded Linux Conference 2010 on Apr. 13, 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Hotel Kabuki, San Francisco, interested participants should send an email to showcase coordinator Satoru Ueda. The email should include name, company (if relevant), and an outline of the demonstration. Once accepted, participants should email the poster content to the CELF office by Apr. 7 (preferably by Apr. 3).

More information on the ELC Technology Showcase may be found here. Registration information on ELC 2010 may be found here. As noted, hobbyist registrations for ELC are priced at $70, and professional registrations cost $425 through Mar. 20, and $475 afterward.
