Socorro, NM –(press release excerpt) — FSMLabs Inc. today announced the immediate availability of the BSD version of its RTCore operating system, the technology that powers the hard real-time RTLinux/Pro system. RTCore/BSD provides a POSIX API for components needing precise timing and runs NetBSD as the fully preemptible 'application platform' thread.

Applications are split between the real-time components that run directly under the RTCore OS and other components that run in the unmodified NetBSD environment. NetBSD provides a small footprint high performance and highly portable OS platform for the non-real-time components of real-time applications. Code that runs under the RTLinux core will run, unmodified, under RTCore/BSD — the real-time kernel remains the same, only the non real-time application platform has changed.

RTCore/BSD is shipping for the IA32 processor. Ports to other processor architectures are planned for the near future: NetBSD is highly portable. Ports of RTCore to ther BSD variants are being considered.
