HA middleware vendor rolls rev, tips beta

Middleware developer GoAhead on Wednesday announced the beta of a new version of its high availability (HA) software platform, which runs on top of various Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) implementations. SelfReliant 5.0 incorporates the Service Availability Forum's latest Application Interface Specification and Hardware Platform Interface standards, the company said.

SelfReliant is a modular collection of software components that implements high availability, messaging, and systems management services, and can manage redundant components to provide five nines (99.999 percent) or better availability and reliability, according to the company. Additionally, the software has a compact footprint of less than 4.5 MB, and requires negligible CPU bandwidth (less than 0.1 percent), making it well suited to embedded systems, the company adds.

GoAhead first shipped its HA middleware for Linux in 2000, and has since partnered with MontaVista and other Linux and telecom software and equipment providers.

“While including a significant amount of new functionality, GoAhead SelfReliant 5.0 Beta is built on a code base deployed on more than 10,000 nodes worldwide,” stated GoAhead CEO Jim Ewel. “This means that customers can take advantage of the AIS functionality while relying on a product that's been proven time and time again.”

According to the company, SelfReliant 5.0 will support the SA Forum's latest Application Interface Specification (AIS B.02.01) and Hardware Platform Interface (HPI B.01.01) specifications.

In a related announcement, the company said it began shipping SelfReliant 4.1 today.
