IHV ships CG Linux on AdvancedTCA signal plane SBCs

SBC (single-board computer) maker Diversifed Technology (DT) says its OEM relationship with MontaVista has enabled it to create, distribute, and support MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade (CG) runtime configurations for an AdvancedTCA blade targeting signal/data plane applications in wireless access/edge, telecom fibre transport, media gateways, soft switches, and Internet IP-based equipment.

The ATC4130

The ATC4130 is a packet-switched processor blade compliant with the PICMG (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group) 3.0 specification for AdvancedTCA (ATCA), an open industrial standard for new hardware platforms in “carrier-grade” networks. The ATC4130 also complies with the ATCA 3.1 specification “via Option 1,” DT says.

The ATC4130 is based on a low-power, 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon Processor, along with Intel's E7501 chipset. It supports up to 4GB of RAM, and has 10/100/1000Mbits/sec Ethernet ports for the base interface, two 1000Mbits/sec Ethernet ports for the fabric interface, and two 64-bit/66MHz PMC sites for user configuration.

According to DT, up to 14 ATC4130 signal plane boards can be paired with its ATS1136 control plane board (pictured at right), supporting the ATCA concept of separate data and control plane traffic.

MontaVista's IHV “self-certification” program

About a year ago, MontaVista launched a program to help IHVs (independent hardware vendors) self-certify their SBCs. MontaVista's Linux Certification Program revolves around its “Board Support Tool,” which includes tools for testing, verifying, and packaging BSPs (board support packages), or “LSPs” (Linux support packages), as MontaVista calls them.

DT says its partnership with MontaVista allows it to develop LSP's for its products, and provide a first line of support for them. The OEM partnership provides a flexible model to meet the requirements of a wide variety of customers, it says.

DT began offering MontaVista preinstalled on its AdvancedTCA products in September of last year.
