Interview: Bruce Perens on GPLv3 embedded consequences

GPLv3 will likely be adopted for the Linux kernel, according to open source luminary Bruce Perens. “It's a negotiation… I'm expecting the embedded manufacturers and the Free Software Foundation and Linus to get the license to a point they can all live with,” Perens says.

However, if Linux does move to a license similar to the current draft of GPLv3, there could be significant consequences for embedded Linux device developers and manufacturers, given license author Richard M. Stallman's stated goal of preventing “tivoization”.
