ISDCorp Unveils ARM 7 Linux 2.2 Port

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Integrated Software & Devices Corporation (ISDCorp), a leading developer of software device drivers for application-specific circuits (ASICs), today announced that it has ported Linux kernel 2.2 to the Cirrus Logic's ARM 7-based Maverick Processor family. The two companies are demonstrating the port this week at COMDEX. The port ensures that all embedded systems and consumer electronics manufacturers using the Cirrus Logic Market Specific Processors can now enjoy the size and speed advantages of Linux for their devices, at a cost considerably lower than that of other embedded operating systems.

Cirrus Logic, Inc., a premier supplier of high-performance analog circuits and advanced mixed-signal chip solutions, partnered with ISDCorp to implement this port of Linux to its Maverick 72xx series of ARM 7 processors. “We knew, from our previous experience with ISDCorp, that they would deliver a professionally-written and documented Linux port which would meet our customers' development needs,” stated Matthew Perry, vice president and general manager for Cirrus Logic's Embedded Processors Division. “ISDCorp has, again, more than met our expectations. The Linux kernel 2.2 port that we will be demonstrating enables our customers to quickly build more cost-effective products than any other ARM processor + OS combination that is currently available,” he concluded.

“ISDCorp has focused its Linux porting efforts on ARM and other RISC-based processors to lower the cost of products utilizing these chips, making it possible for the processor manufacturers to address new customers ,” commented Reza Soliman-Noori, president and CEO of ISDCorp. With its emphasis on porting Linux to ARM and other RISC-based microprocessors, and also porting its existing family of device drivers to these chips, ISDCorp is making these devices more robust, more flexible and less
expensive.

“This Linux port opens the use of Cirrus Logic's [ARM] processors to many applications that they have historically been unable to support due to the high cost of embedded OS and device driver software.” remarked David Witkowski, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ISDCorp. “Our target is to deliver an OS port, including the customer specified device drivers, at a cost that is one tenth of that charged by the traditional OS vendors,” concluded Witkowski.
