Java-on-Embedded-Linux forum launches — call for participation

Jun 22, 2001 — by Rick Lehrbaum — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

LinuxDevices.com has begun assembling a set of Java-on-Embedded-Linux resources that we hope will prove to be a valuable source of information on using Java and Java-like technology within Linux-based embedded systems and smart devices.

We plan to gather links to useful software and tools, as well as provide whitepapers and case studies that will be useful to developers and decision makers within the Embedded Linux community. We also want to give you an opportunity to interact with your colleagues in this community.

LinuxDevices.com has already published numerous news items, articles, and product listings on this subject (see list below). Now, we intend to proactively add to this growing resource, particularly in the area of introductory whitepapers, success stories, how-to's, and opinion columns.

We also want to encourage community discussion and debate on the advantages and disadvantages of using Java-on-Linux within embedded systems and devices. To this end, we have created a discussion forum where members of the community can interact with each other on this important topic.

Please participate!

We'd like to hear your opinions, perspective, experiences, and ideas. For example . . .

  • Do you think Java is useful in Linux-based smart devices and embedded systems?
  • If so, why?
  • If not, why not?
  • What kinds of systems and applications is a Java-on-Embedded-Linux combo best suited to?
  • On the other hand, where does that combo not make sense?
  • What has your experience been, in using Java within Linux-based smart devices and embedded systems?
  • etc . . .

Please post your comments and questions at our new Java-on-Embedded-Linux discussion forum.

We are also inviting both companies and individuals to submit introductory and technical whitepapers and articles (1000-2500 words), and short guest editorials and opinion columns (500-1000 words) on this topic to LinuxDevices.com, for publication in this new Java-on-Embedded-Linux resource center.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks and best regards,
