DALLAS, Texas — (company press release) — Interphase Corporation today announced the availability of Linux device drivers for its PowerSAN Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs).

“Linux is rapidly growing in enterprise computing and SAN (storage area network) applications, and IT managers are seeking reliable high-performance connectivity for their Linux servers,” said Greg Kalush, president and CEO of Interphase. “Our PowerSAN adapters now provide full support for Linux environments, along with the benefits of superior performance, enhanced features, and reliable operation in an open source environment.”

According to International Data Corporation, Linux is the fastest-growing server operating system, with annual growth through 2003 estimated to be 212 percent higher than all other server operating environments combined. Linux was the second leading operating system in 1999 after Windows NT, capturing 24 percent of new server licenses shipped. In addition, Linux is gaining popularity in the embedded market because it can be easily modified to handle specialized, dedicated tasks.

The Interphase Linux drivers provide many features important for enterprise-class computing. For example, with support for symmetric multiprocessing, Interphase PowerSAN adapters fully utilize the advanced power of higher-end servers with multiple CPUs. As with all Interphase PowerSAN adapter drivers, Linux operating system drivers support FibreView Enterprise, the industry's best HBA SAN management tool allowing IT managers to configure, monitor and control server connections from any location with Internet access.

Interphase has released its drivers under an open-source license and supports the Linux community in developing drivers for their Fibre Channel cards. Interphase Fibre Channel Linux drivers are available at no cost, and can be downloaded directly from the Linux Resource Center on the Interphase Web site at www.iphase.com.
