AMES d.o.o. will use embedded Linux and other open source technology in its ADVA User Experiment, an attempt to build an urban environment monitoring system in Slovenia. Currently, the company's industrial embedded systems (IESs) are based on Windows. However, technical and licensing issues have lead users to encourage the company to adopt open source software.

AMES develops and manufactures meteorological sensors, instruments, microcomputer based automatic metering stations, and complete computerized measuring systems including radiological probes. It says it has installed more than 200 automatic stations through Slovenia, as well as in Bosnia, Croatia, Albania, and Serbia. It has also worked with the International Agency of Atomic Energy in Vienna, Austria, and delivered products to Egypt, Algeria, Pakistan, and Mexico.
