The world's fanciest Linux-powered remote control and webpad is now on sale for $800 at Amazon. The Pepper Computer “Pepper Pad” integrates a wi-fi- and bluetooth-enabled webpad with an infrared remote control. It runs a MontaVista embedded Linux operating system, and has a 20GB hard drive.

Pepper Computer launched the Pepper Pad as a reference design for device-makers in January of 2004. Seven months later, it announced the Pepper Pad 2, a revised model with horizontal screen that it planned to market direct to consumers.

Pepper says its Pad 2 is available now through Amazon.com, and will be stocked by “selected big-box retailers” later this year. The device provides basic digital home computing capabilities, including web browsing, email, instant messaging, writing/editing, games, and multimedia functions.
