LinuxLinks.com announces improved search engine

Apr 25, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 3 views

As the LinuxLinks.com site has expanded (to over 10,000 individually entered entries) searches have slowed. One request has dominated our mailbag: “Can you make the searches faster?”

We are proud to announce a brand new search engine to power LinuxLinks based on MySQL and Perl DBI. Searches are now between five and ten times faster than before and represent the quickest way to find Linux content on the Net. This technology is part of a roll-out of new software to drive all the FirstLinux Network sites.

LinuxLinks.com always welcomes and listens to feedback from its visitors. Another frequently requested addition to our site was free web-based email — this can now be found at www.firstlinux.net. By actively responding to our visitors, we hope to make the FirstLinux.com network the most complete set of Linux sites. As ever, if you have any suggestions or comments about our web sites please contact us.
