MontaVista adds third-party IPSec/MOBIKE support

Apr 2, 2007 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

MontaVista is touting a partnership with IPSec specialist SafeNet, at the Embedded Systems Conference this week in San Jose, Calif. MontaVista says SafeNet's “QuickSec” toolkits, combined with MontaVista Linux, can help infrastructure and mobile device vendors create products that support MOBIKE (mobile Internet Key Exchange) and other modern IPSec protocols.

MOBIKE (RFC4555) extends the IKEv2 public key standard in order to allow IP addresses associated with IKEv2 keys and tunnel mode IPsec Security Associations to change. This permits VPN sessions to persist on mobile devices that roam between networks — for example, a VoIP phone being used on a metropolitan area network. Similarly, “multi-homed” devices with multiple network interfaces — such as dual mode phones — can move VPN traffic between interfaces as needed under MOBIKE.

MontaVista says SafeNet's QuickSec client and server IPSec toolkits can be used to build “carrier-grade security gateways” and network routers, as well as mobile and desktop VPN devices. Bill Seawick, chief marketing officer, stated, “SafeNet's QuickSec security toolkits, coupled with our Linux and Mobilinux solutions offer our customers the most complete and proven solution for their VPN appliances.”

SafeNet VP Bill Anderson stated, “Our engineering teams have worked very closely to guarantee that SafeNet's IPSec security offerings integrate easily and seamlessly into each possible solution.”

Availability

SafeNet's QuickSec client and server toolkits are available now, with support for MontaVista's embedded Linux distributions.

SafeNet competitor Certicom also offers a Linux-friendly IPSec toolkit supporting MOBIKE.
