Hull, Quebec — (press release excerpt) — OEone Corporation and EarthLink announced a joint agreement to integrate EarthLink's popular Internet access software into OEone's Linux-based computer operating environment platform for easy-to-use Internet access devices.

OEone's software platform consists of a customized Linux operating system, browser desktop, and personal applications. Together, these provide a comprehensive software platform capable of powering high-end Internet access computers while setting a new benchmark in software integration, performance, and ease of use. The OEone-enabled devices are designed to be accessible to first-time computer users or as a second or third computer in homes with existing PCs.

The OEone platform was developed using the open-source software model, in conjunction with a fixed hardware platform. This approach is intended to overcome compatibility issues that today's desktop computers have in operating efficiently, effectively, and reliably. The OEone operating environment uses the robust and scaleable Linux operating system as its main pillar. Re-engineering the desktop using the Netscape 6 browser technology offers increased functionality supporting all of the standard Internet applications. A comprehensive suite of personal productivity applications, personalized content, and ASP services rounds out the offering.
