Axiomtek claims that its new Panel PC is the first such device to combine a high-resolution 17-inch LCD screen with an embedded RAID subsystem. The PANEL1170-800 is based on an Intel Pentium 4 and 852GM chipset, and it supports Linux, among other OSes.

Intended for rugged industrial applications, the Panel PC has a stainless steel chassis with IP-65 aluminum alloy front panel. It provides two PCI expansion slots and one or two easy-mounting 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drives, for which it provides RAID 0 and RAID 1 capabilities. A resident CD-ROM drive is optional.

The PANEL1170-800 has an SXGA-format LCD screen with brightness and positioning controls located on the front panel. A resistive or capacitive touch-screen overlay is available.

An on-board Intel 852GME graphics controller is also included in the device, along with a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port. On the memory front, it can accommodate up to 1GB of DDR DRAM, and a CompactFlash Type II socket is provided for Solid State Disk (SSD) storage. Various other serial and parallel interfaces are also provided. See table below for more I/O details.

The PANEL1170-800 runs a choice of Linux or Windows (XPe/CE/XP/2000/NT/98), which are optionally available preinstalled on the resident hard disk drive.
