Portable Internet radio runs Linux

French bluetooth accessory specialist Com One is readying a portable WiFi clock-radio powered by a 2.6.15-7 kernel and the Familiar Linux distribution. The battery-powered “Phoenix IP Radio” is based on an Intel PXA270 (Bulverde) processor, and goes on sale direct to consumers next month.

Originally available through French network provider Orange as the “Orange LiveRadio,” the Com One Phoenix IP Radio is a small, battery powered device that plays Internet streams, podcasts, and mp3/WMA files stored on attached USB devices. It has a high-quality audio subsystem, built-in 4cm (1.6-inch) speakers, and 1/8th-inch stereo mini-jack out.
