The latest SDIO device-controller IP (intellectual property, for buildling semiconductor devices) from Arasan Chip Systems supports Version 1.20 of the SDIO specificiation for postage-stamp-sized SD memory expansion cards, which are being built into a wide range of new digital products such as mobile phones, PDAs, multimedia players, and digital cameras.

The IP supports 50 MHz operation, enabling maximum throughput of 200 Mbps in the SD-4 bit mode of the SDIO standard. It also supports an extended voltage range of 1.8V, which the company said makes it suitable for mobile phone applications. The IP is available with AHB, APB, and a 8/16-bit GPIO interface.

Availability

Arasan says it has delivered its new SDIO IP to existing licensees that include Intel, Broadcom, Philips, and Motorola. The new IP is also available now to new licensees, along with SDIO hardware development kits, an SDIO Linux stack, sample drivers for Windows CE and Palm OS, and production testers.
