Tiny drive squeezes 1.5 GB into 1-inch format

According to a news item from the Nikkei Business Journal, a company called Cornice Inc. has unveiled a 1-inch hard drive that holds 1.5GB of data. The Cornice Personal Storage device is described as a non-removable drive for mobile devices such as MP3 players.

Nikeei Business Journal quotes a Cornice spokesperson as saying the drive is a new design, specifically targeting portable devices and embedded systems. The drive is projected to cost less than $100 (USD) in OEM quantities, and is expected to be in production by mid-year 2003.
