Top MontaVista marketer returns to Sun

Mar 21, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

Peder Ulander has left his role as marketing VP for MontaVista, and will serve as VP of software marketing at Sun, a Sun spokesperson confirmed. Ulander originally left Sun for MontaVista, in July of 2004, after joining Sun when it acquired Linux server appliance vendor Cobalt Networks in 2000.

Ironically, Ulander spent his last days at MontaVista denying rumors about widespread employee departures. MontaVista announced in early January that it would replace founder Jim Ready as CEO, and that Hitoshi Arima, who had run its Tokyo office for nearly six years, had left. In February, it began a restructuring that included an RIF (reduction-in-force) rumored to have impacted about 20 percent of its workforce.

Some device industry observers have suggested that MontaVista may be in the process of being acquired. “That could explain why they did not handle the CEO transition more smoothly, and why they have been losing senior executive and marketing staff, but not developers,” LinuxDevices.com founder Rick Lehrbaum reasoned.

MontaVista could not be reached for comment. We hope it's not yet another case of pioneers opening the route for others who eventually find gold.
