Wind River and Ericsson will co-sponsor the 2005 edition of an annual invitation-only Linux kernel-level networking design meeting. The NetConf 2005 meeting is set for July 14-15 in Montreal, Canada, and positioned as an “inner circle” gathering for developers and maintainers of Linux's kernel networking subsystem.

Last year's inaugural Netconf event in Portland was sponsored by Intel, the OSDL, and Red Hat.

The 2005 edition of Netconf has not yet announced its agenda. The event steering committee consists of Jamal Hadi Salim, David S. Miller, and Soyoung Park.

Wind River and Ericsson previously collaborated on the TIPC protocol (transparent inter-process communication), which was developed to provide portability of code between Linux and Wind River's VxWorks operating system.

As part of its transition to Linux and to open systems, Wind River supports the Eclipse Foundation, kernel.org, GNU, Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) Working Group and the Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF). The company shipped its Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition in February of this year.
