Micro/sys is offering a free Linux development kit along with first orders of its new XScale-based PC/104 SBC (single-board computer). Aimed at point-of-sale terminals and industrial control panels, the SBC1670 includes a color flat-panel display controller, audio, debounced keypad inputs, and several PC-style… interfaces.

The SBC1670 is based on an Intel PXA270 XScale processor clocked at either 312 or 520 MHz. The module comes with 128 MB of SDRAM and 64 MB of soldered-on Flash memory. Micro/Sys lists the following on-board peripherals:

• LCD graphics port:
  • compatible with STN, DSTN, and TFT panels
  • max. resolution — 800 x 600
• 10/100 Ethernet
• USB 1.1 host
• 5 serial ports:
  • 4 RS-232
  • 1 half-duplex RS485 with jumperable termination
• Keypad I/O:
  • six input signals with pull-up resistors
  • programmable debounce period
  • interrupt generated on key press
• CompactFlash Type I or II

Micro/sys says the development kit, free with the first board purchase, includes a breakout cable for the serial ports, download cable, utilities, documentation, schematics, and sample software. The kit is available with a choice of Linux or Windows CE.

The basic SBC1670 starts at $495 in single quantity. An industrial temperature (-40 degrees C to +85 degrees C) version is also available starting at $575. “Significant” OEM discounts are available, according to Micro/sys.
