IDE supports multi-processor SOC development

MIPS to the max

MIPS Technologies announced a new “high performance” microprocessor architecture at the Embedded Processor Forum in San Jose, CA this week. The new architecture, called “MIPS32 24K”, is expected to produce devices with operating performances ranging from 400 to 550 MHz (or greater), when implemented in 0.13um. (more…)

Lineo uSolutions launches embedded Linux for consumer devices

Lineo uSolutions (Tokyo) announced a new embedded Linux product specifically aimed at consumer electronics applications. The new distribution, called uLinux Consumer Electronics Edition (“CE Edition”), will be offered in the form of CE Edition board support packages (BSPs) along with ELITE, a cross development environment. Product extension connects remote Linux devices to database server

Pervasive Software Inc. announced a product extension that can connect remote Linux-based devices, such as desktops, point-of-sale systems, set-top boxes and medical equipment, to the Pervasive.SQL database server engine. Linus Torvalds, on leave from Transmeta, joins OSDL as “fellow”

The non-profit Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) and chip-maker Transmeta Corp. jointly announced today that Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, will join OSDL as the first OSDL Fellow. Torvalds will join OSDL on leave from Transmeta Corporation, where he is currently a Transmeta Fellow. (more…)

Quartet of “secured-switch processors” features Linux support

Broadcom announced four new chips in its Sentry5 system-on-chip processor family, at the Embedded Processor forum this week in San Jose, CA. The chips, which are intended for “secured switch” applications such as gateways and routers, feature hardware-accelerated security along with fast Ethernet switching, and are supported with embedded Linux software development kits. “Video-centric SoC” runs Linux, eCos

Equator Technologies unveiled its latest “video-centric” system-on-chip processor this week at the Embedded Processor Forum in San Jose, CA. The 500MHz BSP-16 increases performance and reduces system cost, Equator said. Reference board for VoIP appliance designs runs uClinux

7Chips announced the release of a new reference board for VoIP appliance designs. The “EVA” (Easy VOIP Appliance) board, which is based on the ATMEL AT75Cxxx family of processors, can form the basis of a wide range of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) device designs, including IP phones, VoIP/analog phone adapters, and VOIP/PSTN gateways, the company said.
