Freescale vaunts Linux-based AdvancedTCA platform

Freescale Semiconductor is showcasing Linux-based AdvancedTCA designs at its developer event in Orlando this week. Freescale's Open AdvancedTCA Development Platform includes reference designs for an AdvancedTCA blade and Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) supporting Serial RapidIO and Ethernet backplanes, and a “DSP farm module” AMC based on an eight-way StarCore DSP. Artesyn is sampling an AdvancedTCA blade and a ProcessorPMC mezzanine card based on Freescale's fastest PowerPC chip. The KatanaQp blade features dual MPC7448 processors, while the PmPPC7448 card runs a single MPC7448. Both boards support Wind River's Carrier Grade Linux and VxWorks, and target telecom equipment. Wind River showcases Freescale partnership, adds ATCA support

Wind River says it has partnered with Freescale's network processor group to ensure that its embedded Linux tools and vertical market platforms support Freescale's latest PowerPC and PowerQUICC processors. Wind River's Carrier Grade Linux offering, Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition, supports a Freescale PowerPC-based AdvancedTCA platform from Artesyn Technologies. (more…)

IBM’s BlueGene/L tops supercomputer list

IBM-built machines accounted for over half the listings on this year's TOP500 supercomputer rankings. IBM's BlueGene/L supercomputer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory earned the top spot on the list, followed by a similar BlueGene machine at IBM's own Watson Research Center in New York. Telematics tools support embedded Linux on Freescale PowerPC

Encirq is shipping telematics tools that support embedded Linux on Freescale's MPC5200 processor. The Encirq Data Foundation Framework generates ANSI C code from high-level scripts, and includes cross-platform target libraries supporting Linux and other embedded OSes. It targets telematics control units, driver information and navigation systems, and instrument cluster control. (more…)

TimeSys touts Freescale Linux tools, services, successes

TimeSys has launched new network-based embedded Linux tools and services for companies designing with Freescale processors, a group it says includes numerous large aerospace, military, industrial, and enterprise customers. The Freescale Linux Component Repository includes kernel patches, drivers, updates for processor revisions, Linux source and binary packages, and reference distributions. (more…)

Linux powers low-cost petabyte-level storage

Capricorn Technologies says it has completed delivery of more than a petabyte of storage to the Internet Archive, a non-profit organization based in San Francisco that creates periodic snapshots of the Internet. Embedded SDIO stack available for Linux/Bulverde

EmbWise has ported its embedded SDIO Linux stack to MontaVista Linux CEE (consumer electronics edition) running on Intel's newest mobile multimedia processor, the XScale PXA270 (Bulverde). VoWiFi the future of mobile phones, report claims

Coraid shrinks innovative Linux SAN device

Freescale die-shrinks PowerPC embedded processor

Freescale will demonstrate a pin-compatible die-shrink of its MPC7447A embedded processor at its developer conference in Orlando, Fla. this week. The PowerPC MPC7448 uses Freescale's 90nm SOI (silicon-on-insulator) CMOS process, said to reduce power while increasing clock and bus speeds.
