Tiny, sub-$100 PC runs Puppy Linux

A Bangkok-based company is shipping a tiny, sub-$100 PC capable of running Puppy and other lightweight Linux distributions. NorhTec's MicroClient Jr. measures 4.5 inches square, draws 8 Watts, and has a 166MHz Pentium-compatible processor with three integer units. (more…)

CMU publishes open, Linux-based robot designs

The Mobile Robot Programming Lab (MRPL) at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute has published the first in a planned series of open, educational robotics designs. The Linux-based “Qwerkbot” can be built in two hours from detailed online instructions, at a cost of $550, the Lab says. (more…)

USB stack supports Atmel ARM7/ARM9 processors

Jungo Software has added support for Atmel's ARM7 and ARM9 microcontrollers to its embedded USB software stack. The support includes low-level drivers for Atmel's AT91 series microcontrollers' USB host and device function cores, along with standard class drivers that enable developers to easily incorporate USB connectivity, the company says. The Devicescape Agent, formerly “Secure Wireless Client,” offers a standards-based “Easy Access” feature aimed at making secure WiFi network configuration trivial for “service-enabled” consumer electronics devices such as network-ready cameras and music-players.
