Mini-ITX PowerPC system includes Linux

A board vendor in China/Taiwan is touting a mini-ITX system based on Freescale's fastest PowerQUICC II processor. Micetek, which specializes in 8- and 32-bit processor development boards, said its MPC8349E-mITX system comes with Linux, and can be used to build networking, communications, and “pervasive computing”… (more…)

Browser, graphics stack tag-team eyes Linux devices

What we know as the “ultra-mobile PC” (UMPC) is going to be one of a whole family of “ultra-mobile devices” (UMDs), a new report claims. Market researcher In-Stat says “one ultra mobile device will not be able to meet all of the different usages and applications.”

Rugged, fanless vehicle PC runs Linux

Acrosser has introduced a compact, fanless computer aimed at the harsh environments found in trucks, taxis, and other vehicular applications. Massively multicore processor runs Linux

A startup founded by an MIT professor claims to have “solved the fundamental challenges associated with multicore scalability.” Tilera's first products include a 64-core Tile64 SoC (system-on-chip), PCIe Express add-in board for networking and video-processing applications, multicore-optimized Linux libraries, and an Eclipse-based multicore development environment toolset. Multi-country roadshow promotes embedded Linux

MontaVista and Freescale, together with U.S. and European distributors, will jointly promote their products and services in a 23-day technical road show this fall. Linux V2IP stack ported to DaVinci

Trinity Convergence has ported its Linux-based voice- and video-over-IP (“V2IP”) stack to the Texas Instruments DaVinci RISC/DSP architecture. Microsoft seeks OSI approval for “Shared Source” licenses
