Taiwanese board vendor Axiomtek has introduced a mini-ITX board supporting Socket M processors like Intel's Core 2 Duo. The SBC86831 runs Linux, has an x16 PCIe slot and dual gigE ports, and targets DSA (digital signage appliances), DVR (digital video recorder), gaming devices, and “transaction terminals.”

The SBC86831 is based on Intel's 945GM+ICH7M chipset. It accepts 478-pin Socket M processors, such as:

• Core 2 Duo/Core Duo/Core Solo processor with FSB 533/667MHz
• ULV Intel Celeron 423 400/533MHz, with 1MB L2 cache

A pair of DIMM sockets supports up to 3GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The board's video subsystem is based on the Intel 945GM chipset's integrated graphics; it shares up to 224MB of system RAM and supports CRT and/or LVDS LCD output.

The SBC85831 appears to be immediately available. Pricing was not disclosed.

Another Taiwanese board vendor, Acrosser, began shipping a Core 2 Duo mini-ITX board targeting gaming applications in January.
