The SEMI Equipment Communication Standard (SECS http://www.gwainc.com/secsinfo/secsinfo.htm) is a computer-to-computer communication protocol intended to assist automation of electronics manufacturing facilities. SECS allows computer-controlled process equipment, from a variety of vendors, to communicate with various types of host computers, using a standard and consistent protocol.
The SECS standard is split into two standards:
* SECS-I defines SECS message transfer over RS-232 connection.
* SECS-II defines SECS message content.
SECS provides a one-to-one link between a particular unit of equipment and a host computer. The equipment is generally related to semiconductor or electronics manufacturing but can be almost any kind, including:
* wafer processing equipment
* die or package assembly equipment
* robotics material handlers
