Embedded Linux dev kit supports advanced network security features

Arcom is shipping an embedded Linux development kit for a PC/104 single-board computer (SBC) with advanced network security processing features. The kit includes Arcom's Mercury SBC, and supports security engines in the board's IXP425 processor. It targets remote monitoring, security, and wireless industrial network gateway applications.

According to Arcom, the Development Kit (pictured at right) includes a ready-to-run embedded Linux 2.4.24 system based on Arcom's Embedded Linux 3.2, with full support for all on-board peripherals. The operating system supports the Intel IXP425's Ethernet-based hardware-accelerated security features, including AES, DES, and 3DES encryption and SHA-1 and MD5 authentication. Arcom says the IXP425's security engines enable the Mercury SBC to provide secure, high performance Ethernet-based communications with an embedded VPN gateway throughput of 50Mbits/s.


The kit includes Arcom's Mercury PC/104 SBC

The Development Kit includes the Mercury PC/104 single board computer fitted with 64MB of DRAM, 16MB of AMD MirrorBit Flash, and 256KB of SRAM. The board has two 100baseTx Ethernet ports, four high-speed USB 2.0 ports, three RS-232 ports, and one RS-422/485 port. It also offers a CompactFlash port and PC/104 expansion bus, and is housed inside a low cost compact industrial enclosure (Mercury-ICE) with breakout cables and tamper detect switch.

The kit also includes an AC power supply, cables to connect to a host system, and a comprehensive information/software CD, Arcom says.
