Embedded Linux vendor honored on top private companies list

Jul 6, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

Embedded Linux house MontaVista is included on a list of the top 100 privately held U.S. technology companies assembled by media company AlwaysOn and accounting firm KPMG. The “AO100” list highlights companies with exceptional revenue or customer growth, and companies with “game-changing” approaches and technologies.

According to AlwaysOn, the AO100 was compiled from 700 companies nominated by more than 1,000 surveyed venture investors, investment bankers, entrepreneurs, and executives. The annual AO100 list was published for the second time this year, and featured 50 returning winners. Eighteen companies listed last year were ineligible this year, having gone public.

In October of last year, MontaVista was named the fifth fastest-growing private company in the Silicon Valley. MontaVista's lastest round of funding in April brought total investments to $70M. For more about the chances of MontaVista going public, be sure to read our recent interview with CEO James Ready.

AlwaysOn Editor Tony Perkins said, “A total of 50 new companies were added, including many that are beginning to receive lots of media attention like Skype [story], Friendster, MySQL, and Digital Chocolate.”

According to Padraic Kelly, partner in charge of KPMG 1Start, “Many of these private companies said that they were beating their internal revenue projections for 2004. This may indicate that the IPO calendar for the second half of this year should be strong.”
