SIXNET announced that its Linux IPm Application Development Kit software is now available as a free download. The free Linux kit is intended to allow developers to write applications to run in SIXNET's Linux IPm family of controllers and href=”/NS8580641597.html”>remote terminal units (pictured at left), the company said.

According to SIXNET, the Linux IPm software suite already includes ready-to-use applications for several useful functions, including: ISaGRAF IEC 61131-3 programming; datalogging; and Modbus master and slave, radio, and telephone communications. The new Linux application development kit is expected to enable users of the IPm modules to develop new applications, add I/O drivers, and customize the performance of existing firmware to fit specific applications and requirements.

The IPm Application Development Kit's cross-compiler generates applications to run on the PowerPC processor in the IPm modules, and applications can be developed on either Red Hat Linux (i386) or Microsoft Windows based host systems. A remote debugger is also provided (for Linux hosts only). An IPm Advanced Development license and IPm controller/rtu are required to run applications created using the Ipm Application Development Kit, SIXNET said.
