Lineo’s former Japanese subsidiary goes independent, retains “Lineo” brand

The former Japanese subsidiary of Embedix Inc. announced today that it has been purchased in a management buyout and has changed its name from “Lineo Japan, Inc.” to “Lineo uSolutions, Inc.” Additionally, the newly independent Japanese embedded Linux supplier is getting set to announce its own embedded Linux and cross-development environment products, including a product aimed at consumer electronics… manufacturers, as early as March 2003, the company said.

The assets of the US corporation, Embedix Inc. (formerly Lineo Inc.), were acquired late last year by Metrowerks, but Lineo Japan, Inc. was not part of that sale.

“Lineo uSolutions knows what is expected of embedded Linux by OEMs,” said Lineo uSolutions CEO Yoshinobu Ushiyama. “[Lineo Japan was] instrumental in actually delivering Lineo [embedded Linux] solutions to many chip vendors' and OEMs' platforms with ARM, SH, MIPS, and PPC architectures for the past two and a half years, including Sharp's Zaurus PDAs,” he added.

Lineo uSolutions says it will offer embedded solutions based on embedded Linux, as well as cross development tools, environments that include software and hardware reference designs, and professional services. The company also appears to have acquired the well known “Lineo” trademark.

Lineo uSolutions is based in Shiojiri, Nagano, Japan.
